"Yea June 15th in this bitch wassuuuupp?!" Those are the words uttered by Drake on his track titled '9AM In Dallas'. Today is that day, June 15th, the release of the canadian crooner/rapper Aubrey 'Drake' Graham's debut, fittingly titled 'Thank Me Later' and that's exactly what you'll do. For many who haven't been following Drake's rise to stardom since his 'So Far Gone' days, this album may take you back a bit. Judging from reviews i've heard, it's really hard to appreciate the album unless you're an avid Drake listener, even the latest single 'Find Your Love' was labelled a mis-hit. Jay-Z himself described the song as "a girl who you see in the club who isn't that great looking but over time she becomes the sexiest girl alive."

It seems Jay-Z was right, this is definitely an album, that over time you'll grow to love (unless like me this happened at first listen).
The album itself starts off strongly with 'Fireworks', Drake tells the tales of money, love, family & friends with the help of Alicia Keys on the hook, not that he needed the assistance. The intro is a sign of what to come as Drake sings his way through most of the album in all his monotone glory.
It's hard to pick out standout tracks...they all are, the only fault i can pick out is the inclusion of 'Best I Ever Had'. 'Light Up' featuring Jay-Z and 'Unforgettable' with Young Jeezy are strong contenders for 'Best track on the album' along with Fireworks but in truth you really have to judge for yourself.

Wisdom Wednesdays; Double Standards: Part 1

Greetings readers and welcome to the first installment of 'Wisdom Wednesdays'. Assuming you've read the intro to this feature, you'll know what it's about, if not you can find it here.
Now let me get straight to the point of today, 'Double Standards'.

First of all what is a 'double standard'? In short it's defined as
"any code or set of principles containing different provisions for one group of people than for another."
Now let's be clear there's a fine line between a double standard and hypocrisy, the latter applyin more to one's self than a group of people.

My favorite double standard and also today's main topic is "Men can sleep with whoever they please but if a woman does it she's a whore."

Hmm, big statement isn't it? well unfortunately that's the world we live in where opinion seems to rule supreme. To start off let me just say there's nothing wrong at all with sex, if you don't enjoy it or shun it then there's probably somethin wrong with you mentally! People make sex a LOT more taboo than it really is, and talk about it as if it wasn't natural. If our parents didn't do the deed i wouldn't be typing this and you wouldn't be reading. Anyway pardon me for digressing, back to the topic.

If a man boasts that he's slept with as much as 15-20+ different partners he's praised and even admired by his peers, now when a woman utters even a much smaller number, let's say 8...eyebrows are automatically raised and her morals are questioned. Why? Is there anything immoral about having sex?
A common misconception is that the greater the number of men a woman has opened her legs to, the more 'promiscuous' she is. Some of you may have read that and thought "umm, well DUH" but read carefully and answer this question.

Girl A has slept with 5 different partners in the space of 2 months.
Girl B has slept with 2 in the same period, but happily performs sexual acts (head, handjobs, etc) to anyone, anywhere. Now who's the bigger 'whore'?

I'm sure most would agree Girl B right? Even though she's slept with 3 less men. So now do you get my point? Now to label a woman a 'whore' because of the number she's slept with is almost ridiculous unless the number is pretty wild! There's a lot of girls out there who simply enjoy sex and only open their legs appropriately. If men weren't so quick to judge and use the words 'whore, slut, hoe etc' then a lot more women would feel comfortable having sex as they know they won't be labelled and shunned. If that was the case then some of us would have a much greater number to go back and brag to our friends over!

Now don't get me wrong i'm not saying if a girl told me she's had sex with 20 males i'd accept her like she said 2, i'm simply saying don't get too wrapped up in the mathematics. If a girl wants to have sex let her go about her business, until she has aids and brings it to you...it ain't your problem. Men wanna label women hoes for sleeping with 7 partners [some might have been in a relationship] but can't take it when she puts you on blast for fucking 18?! Come on that doesn't make the least sense. For most females it takes somewhat of an attachment for them to open their legs and let you in, don't take that for granted and turn around and label her a slut, ESPECIALLY when you probably put on your Class A game to get the sex. So what does that make you? A man who made a great amount of effort to get sex....from a slut...yeah i really respect you buddy! [sarcasm sponsored by Idontgiveaf**k.com]



In conclusion, what i'm really saying is, if you're gonna air out someone's dirty laundry, make sure yours is pristine, if you're not a virgin regularly attending bible study/celibacy club...who are you to label someone when you're far from innocent? Morning, it's approximately 4:48 am as i type this, the time now reads 4:49 as i've spent about a minute thinking of what to write next...*sigh* It's been a while since i've blogged, i know my blog says this is my first post but it isn't, I deleted the previous posts due to boredom. Now let me get to the point of this...well there really isn't but what i will say is this, B.o.B. aka 'Bobby Ray' put out his debut album recently [B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray] and believe me it's amazing! You might have heard the smash hit 'Nothin' On You' featuring singer Bruno Mars, if you haven't, what rock have you been hiding under? Features from Lupe Fiasco, Hayley Williams of Paramore, and Eminem to state a few, add the icing on the cake, ATL stand up! Finally a sense of pride is being restored after Gucci Mane's mockery called 'music' took it all. Take a few minutes to listen to the Atlanta native work his magic and take a few more to Download.
